The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex cell signalling system found naturally in all animals, including humans. The ECS consists of three parts: the endocannabinoids or internal cannabinoids, cannabinoid (CB) receptors, and enzymes.
How does CBD work for cats?
The body produces endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters or messaging chemicals. These compounds activate the cannabinoid receptors, releasing various chemicals to help the body remain in homeostasis or healthy balance.
Cannabinoid receptors are found throughout the body, which is why CBD and other plant-based cannabinoids have wide-reaching effects. CB1 is the receptor primarily found in the brain and central nervous system, whereas CB2 receptors are sited in the liver and throughout the immune system.
Researchers believe that the ECS plays a role in significant bodily functions involving the central nervous system, digestive system, endocrine system, and reproductive system. CBD and the other phytocannabinoids hold the key to the ECS as, like the body's endocannabinoids, they can interact with the CB receptors and support recovery and aid optimal health.

How to give CBD to your cat
There are a number of ways to give your cat CBD.
You can add the drops to food or if they are experiencing reduced appetite, you can drop the CBD oils directly into the side of the mouth.
Ideally the drops are placed under the tongue, where they will be rapidly absorbed through the pink mucosa. This is known as the sublingual route (literally, ‘under the tongue’), and can be safely done using your complimentary dosing syringe.
Sublingual absorption is efficient in terms of bioavailability. The percentage of each dose absorbed is generally higher than that achieved by means of oral ingestion and is absorbed into the bloodstream within 15 minutes.

The easiest way to administer sublingually is to face the same way as your cat and use one hand to steady the head and simultaneously lift the lip with a thumb.
With the other hand, gently introduce the Naturecan syringe into the corner of the mouth (which will likely cause the cat to lick and chew) and use this opportunity to deposit the oil in the space underneath the tongue.
Syringes are included with all our CBD Oils.
